Erehwon

Well, I passed up first place for Presidents this month. The changes to the way we play on Golden Rainbow brought about by new rules and by the different style of the 12Monkeys, required me to militarize in order to survive. In that sense, the 12Monkeys defeated Erehwon even without taking a single country from me.

Militarizing caused a significant dent in my economies. Not so much in terms of budget - I have maintained high financial indices in most countries and failed to do so in a few only because of my own errors. But in terms of manpower I have been unable to man factories at 100% in several countries and have had to resort to massive movements of workers to keep up - very time consuming and tedious. Because the need for workers caused me to take on more colonies and because of welfare index losses because my economic power was devoted to military buildup instead of continuously upgrading infrastructure, I also suffered far more losses of factories to rebellion than usual.

So, in order to avoid first place (protecting maintain high funds inflows) and to gain access to more workers, I have taken a bunch of colonies. I don't consider it an advance, rather it is a retreat.

I have won first place a number of times - not sure exactly how many, maybe three or four times - and I did warn my allies that I would shedding score. Maybe I'll figure out how to maintain a huge military and also win first place by next month...
