No, there would be sailors (no "soldiers") on both.
Yes, the Navy Fighter casualty figures are ludicrous.
However, remember that if an Attack Destroyer is hit, there's usually time to break out the life preservers and rafts before she goes down. What casualties you'd suffer would largely be from the blast that sank the AD.

not enough parashoots for all those navy fighter pilots

LOL .. yes casualty rates are insane however the anology about having time when a ship is sunk to break out the life rafts isn't necessarily true.
A lot of course depends not only on what the ship was hit with .. but where it was actually hit.
A torpedo exploding 50-150' under the keel will do much more damage than one that actually makes contact with the hull.
The expanding bubble changes the density of the water in which the ship floats effecting displacement factors, and most usually, breaks her back. You can punch a massive hole in a ship and if it's possible to contain the resulting fires and enough DC equipment remains to stay even with flooding it will continue to float.
Break her back and something is going to fall off and unless that particular piece has a moderate displacement ratio left, it will sink like a rock.
Thats why safety equipment such as life rafts and GMDSS transmitters are released automatically on contact with water.
Ships sunk by torpedos have been known to be gone before the intitial waterspout disappeared.
