this really couldn't have come along at a worse time. so much time spent on planning and building has gone to waste. i am rather disappointed in hymy i thought he would have at least some sort of disence.

Matty, you can still hack away at me!
Yes, we can. Don't think we didn't have a 2nd and 3rd plan. But two of our main targets are now untouchable. If we continue against you will you use the same tactic on any country we get near taking?

that reasoning is/was behind the reprieve.
It was, to use british slang, "gutting" to see all of our effort go into naught. Taking Hymyland V was necessary for our main plan in case the air defenses of the entire fed did not fail. When they fell nevertheless, there still was litlte point in continuing. We did not run out of units, men, money, or ideas. We ran out of willpower. When you are fighting the gamemaster, there is no point in continuing. Why bother attakcing your countries when youd haev the option to become immune at will?
We could evade your traps, outbuild you, outspend you, use superior tactics, and work as hard as we wanted - but if the time came, you could simply walk away. upon seeing this, it was difficult to care about the result, despite our (literal) months of planning.
On the other hand, the current issues will be temporary. Lifting the limits and arbitrary cludges will be long term. perhaps we will take you up on your offer, erehwon, if I can keep my federtion from quitting outright. It will give you something to interst you at least as much as it would us. I would very much like to be shot at as well as to shoot (although that might sound weird...)
Plus, a litlte birdie told me an old buddy of ours might be coming back. Hed looks to be interested in livening things up as your ally, if and when the limits are lifted. Youl have to guess who it might be, he asked me not to tell. Shhh!!
And by the way - the current rules aside, congatulations on your efforts. You had almost fought us to a standstil before we finally broke through. If W3c has waited 24 hours...24 hours...sigh. I would be sad that "we will never know what would have happened", But as far as I am concerned, I do. I think Our federation proved itself to be the best (in tersm of playing ability ), most cooperative, smartest, and most dedicated group to ever play the game. Despite the accusations ive gotten on the boards and in private, I am very proud of the restraint my allies showed regarding bug-exploitation and leaving weaker parties who chose to involve theslves unmolested (well, unconquered anyway. Losing their offensive units and being pounded a bit is being molested I suppose )as well. Very few intentional yucky shots were fired. this goes for the other side as well, im pretty happy all around in that respect. That is much differnt than it has bene in the past when all sides did whatever they needd to win. I supose the probable prospect of annihlation might have been responsible for other players' restraint, but id like to think not
I might be a bit biased of course
although jackle was a bit tactless, I cant blame him in light of the promises of doom he was given by hymy. Still, id like to keep the boards as clean as possible. Lets not sink to lower levels ;)
Erehwon, matty wasnt talking about you using bugs to take what is now known as 'hymyland V.' We both know you never have done such a thing. He was talking to its owner, who used navy fighter/nuke combos to bypass the air defenses of its previous owner before that bug was fixed.

Matty, I will not put any of my countries into peaceful mode. I still don't think it is a good idea in general and it would be a low thing to do in the specific instance. I know I didn't prepare well for war, but I still think that warfare has a major place in the game.
I have heard all sorts of things about what will happen from this point in the game. If you folks continue the war, I will attempt to muster all the resistance I can. I think I must lose at this point, but I won't go down without a fight. If you are thinking of holding off then I will obviously go along with that, whether for a specific period or until the situation calls for a war for "political" reasons.
That's up to you guys, but I want you to know that after talking at length with the other Matt C. last night I am no longer so resentful of the justifications and I'm willing to go along with most ways of making the game more playable and competitive, and I'm willing to play an active part in proposing and testing with my present empire as long as it doesn't mean screwing an ally.
