But converting distance between two points measured in lat and long requires some spherical trig, just like navigating. Whee!

Those are earthly measurements of distance. GR maybe a larger or smaller sphere thus its distances may not be the same. Hell in GR there isn't even any poles so the lines of longitude never converge and thus would always have equal spacing....
So I here by award you the longest, most detailed and researched, but ultimately useless post award... congrats :P :P
And no one has still answered my question about weapon ranges....

Dawn, those numbers in documentation about ranges are just that (as many other things). Numbers. They used to mean something, but everything here changes so fast that it is seen by game creators like waste of time to update.

Easiest way to determine distance between two countries is to go in war-room (link on your homepage where it says if you are at war and with whom). Open weapons inspections, type in desired country (start with one that is close) and click analyze. It shows list of weapons that can reach that target. On top of that list you will find distance. Play with it for a while and you will soon get the feeling how much 800 km is.

Just one more thing. You must have 3 long range radar planes and offensive airport to house them if you want to perform weapon inspections.

Welllllllllll, why didn't you just say soooooo.

Lions foot narrowed it down for you. The game gods have diminished weapon ranges anyway. You want to "go the distance", build a very good Navy .............

PS: When will I get my "Award"? How many gold credits was that ?????
