I've been wondering... How come a lot of my corporations have bought materials for more than double the market value? Is it because that really IS the best price? Because if it is, they certainly SHOULD update market value. I am trying a fixed price now.

Materials cost is adjusted in consideration so that if you use Best price then a product of 150 quality that is priced 50% over market, will sell just as easily as a product of 100 quality selling at market price.
Your solution to the problem is correct.

How does Common Market work?
How does Local Market work?
if u sign up on these can u still buy thing from the world trade market?

A group of countries and/or CEOs join together and trade their products.
Products on the common market are available to all the members, those on a local market only to that particular country or CEO.
Products can be sold at up to +50% of market value plus any additions for quality.
eg If boats have a market value of 1.00m, sell on common market for 1.50m then add on any modifier for quality, final price could be 200% over market value.
Any contracts a country or enterprise has on the common market is counted in the business & trade index of that country or CEO and goes towards your score and rankings.
The Port Royale Alliance common market is now open for new members
