Yeah, B.K. is right, that a variable-quantity contract doesn't make sense, and even if it did would presumably add a chunk of processor time for a fairly minor change.


I think, though, there there *should* be a "sign up to % use" field added to the "sign contracts" page rather than the currently inflicted "sign up for 100% of current need" assumption. And that change *wouldn't* significantly affect processor time.


Suppose, for example, that services has a high world demand. Suppose that you have local companies which produce services, but only 70% of the total of what your other companies need.

Now, as it currently stands, you offer local contracts and the first-checked local companies snatch up 100% of what they need. This leaves the later companies without local contracts and prone to production stops when they start belatedly -- with only one month's warning (another problem which needs fixing) -- trying to increase their stock.

Better would be to be able to say "sign up to 70% of current monthly demand" and thus be able to spread out the resources better.
