I was thinking purely abstractly when I was talking about languages being modeled by vectors in n-space. There should be enough dimensions to have "diverse" languages. I didn't think the characteristics the components represented mattered all that much. How the language is written and how it is spoken would be the main categories of characteristics, if you want to go that route.

What I said about using complex numbers could be done by making the vectors 2n-dimensional, or making 2xn matrices. One half would be the nationally preferred language, the other half would be the language as currently used. After several generations in the same empire, the old language would be forgotten, which would be modelled by the nationally preferred language drifting toward the used language. Internationally powerful languages might be cool, too, (e.g. English irl). I hadn't thought about that before...

network of vertices connected by edges
Why not just say "angles and lines." Lol! geez...
I'm a math geek, planning to specialize in graph theory or number theory. That was my graph theory bias showing. The problem as I presented it would be a purely graph theoretical problem of discrete optimization, which doesn't require any knowledge of the initial geometry. I could probably go on for several hours on the theory alone. The only problem is that such a formulation is NP-complete in general. :)

Country A dislikes...
Yeah, I meant like an embargo. Country A would have a president that dislikes Country B's president would probably be a more precise way of putting it. If the population of Country A disliked Country B, it would be easier for the president of Country A to set up the embargo, as there would be more support for the action. Boycotts might be good to include, too.

Perhaps Unions could bleed the over-successful companies. As the workers demand more perks, the company shares more of its wealth to the workers. I don't know. Throw in all the stops until the economy goes to hell and a handbasket, and whatever player manages to survive best wins that round?
