If high tech units were to be brought in (which they are) and special units - more expensive ammunition - very high maintence costs - you may have to wait 12 game months to acquire that way players who want to use them in warfare would have to plan way in advance to acquire them - then the expense of maintaining them and the extra ammunition and perhaps special airports and storage facilities (which would also cost a lot) but they would be harder to destroy and more offesnive capabilities.

The other side is that standard armies would have superior numbers easier to maintain and would still be an effective force within this game against smaller but more well equiped armies.

And on the economic sense if a game imbalance was to develop into a shortage the costs would exponential. Moreso than standard weapons and forces.

Perhaps the presense of special units would make it harder to capture enemy countires

Take iraq for example the invasion went well but lots of rebel groups pop up and its harder to maintain law and order with limited high tech troops - perhaps this could be the same with captured countries if you have more than a certain % of youre total armed forces with special weapons those countries you invade would be harder to manage ? or if they inflict more damage when you capture the country it has more debt - another offset.

Im doing my best to stimulate a lot of conversation here to get lots of ideas for the dev team and more player involvement in the forums.
That is how successful games develop and maintain a community involvement feel - lots of discussion - ideas are generated - the dev team listens and implements better ideas more balanced ideas and with less errors. This makes players happy they pay to play then you get a better game.
