The local market won't do anything until you do something with it. You have to offer contracts and sign contracts. If you offer a contract for a product and sign contracts for that product than the product is being traded on the local market. In a common market when you offer products on it(you can only offer contracts on common and local markets) other people have to sign those contracts. You can also sign contracts form other people if you are in a common market.

You can tell how much you are getting from your corps by clicking on their name then scroll down a page or two and find this:
Tax Paid 0.00M $E
Profit Payment Paid 0.00M $E
It should say how much it paid instead of zeros though.

If corps are idling and being worthless their net worth will decrease every month. Corps normally start out with a market price of 5B$E if it is lower than that for more than a few(about three) months it is not making enough profit either from too high of taxes, just a bad product, or too many shortages either from lack of workers or lack of supplies. Usually when you look around in a corps page you'll see a pile(literally) of links near the top of the page and you can use those or you can scroll down the entire page. I prefer to scroll down when I am checking on a corps profit, turnover, etc since its rather close to the top of the page. While for loans I click the link.
