I was under the impression that joining a common market has no effect at all.

Buying from the common market ruins your economy but only because you lose control of product quality.

Please correct me if I am wrong:

1) selling to the common market is identical to selling at "best price" on the open market.

2) Buying from the common market is almost identical to buying at "best price" and "any quality" on the open market. The difference between common market and open market is that the quality will be more consistent and purchases will execute every month instead of waiting for the low water mark.

So, if both 1 and 2 is correct you can join a common market and buy nothing. That should have no adverse effects on your economy.

The selling side could go both ways. If your corporations are able to sell above the best price you might see a slight loss. That would be only 10% of the products. You can get around most of the 10% by selling to your own countries and then reselling to your corporations. The corporations would have been forced to pay inflated rates on the open market.
