Actually, "student" doesn't surprise me at all. Much more than that would definitely surprise me.

Look, you've admitted that your military wasn't up to the task, and Silver Nation's certainly wasn't. I doubt Perlamo's was. Essentially, people are arguing that I didn't protect my country enough because the biggest military in the game was able to crack me, when it seems that none of the nations that were attacking me (except maybe Karmantium themselves) would have been able to withstand the same attack. So if Karmantium and Perlamo and Silver Nation roll up on you, JG, can we all call you a fool for not adequately defending your population, even with the 4th largest military? Methinks you're setting the bar a lot higher than is reasonable when your own country isn't up to the same task. If I had hired Karmantium to attack you instead of the other way around, I doubt you'd have tolerated my giving you smack-talk for being too stupid to build up adequate defenses.

I know there are some decent C3s out there to conquer, but I'm especially sure that there are tons of isolated inactive countries out there with a much better population to effort ratio. Why not them? You know the answer to that one already.

Yes, buying up Gold Coins with assets is a way to play the game for free. I'm fine with that. Those of us who figure out how to get the same rewards without paying game assets don't threaten that approach one bit. Between the plethora of inactive countries waiting to be "harvested" for population and the fact that top-score countries actually HELP you all stay out of the awards, we're still left to wonder the wisdom of going after countries like ours. Oh, except we've already seen the impetus: spite. And I suppose that floats some peoples' boats and all, but it's not worth trying to cover up when you've spent this whole thread proving your disdain for those who eschew the war game.
