I have been thinking about this a bit, as I sip on this 40 here. 211 is the best.

The problem with this game is money, real life money. The game makers, understandably, need to make money off of this venture. That is why GC/Resets are so sensitive.

That's why they won't do anything about the reset problem. Countries about to reset won't be made attackable, cuz there is a chance, a slim chance, that the human prez will come back and throw some cash in to prevent the reset. That cash is revenue to the game makers. That makes no sense in-game, of course, cuz top rated countries about to reset last forever and can never be attacked. But somebody has to pay these dudes to program this game, they have to pay their rent, server bills etc. I don't like it, but its just how it goes, we should really be glad payment isn't mandatory here, there is at least a chance of getting a high rank and playing free or dealing in GC and being able to continue without paying. I don't see many ads here, so there isn't much other route to fund their stuff.

Same with the potential GC business here. A certain percent of people actually use the pop-trading to actually buy/sell population, but is has really enabled some cool possible features, including extortion etc. Honestly, I love it, but it might make it harder for these dudes who need to keep this game going. Basically the game-makers are now competing with good players who can force other players to shell out GC for some reason. GC is cash. More competition automatically means less real money for the game makers.

They must have anticipated this before they implemented these recent features. Perhaps they thought the GC market would result in people dumping in money to buy population, thus increasing their cash flow. That especially makes sense given recent population reductions. It was a risk of course.

I think we need to recognize that these game makers are gunna make decisions that are made only to increase their cash flow.

It will hurt the purity of the game. Playing chess, you can't throw in 5 dollars to buy back your queen. In this game you can. We need to accept that if we play here. Servers aren't free, progammer time isn't free. I'm saying this as somebody that has practiced extortion many times in the game, but I'm also a programmer, I'm personally responsible for paying for and maintaining servers, and it's not easy stuff.

And that's the division. This is their game. They made it. They pay the bills. They call shots. If these guys have to shut down operations because they couldn't pay the bills, none of us will be happy.
