pythagoras assumes the X and Y coordinates are on the same scale. Simcountry is not this way. You must do some conversions before dropping in X^2 +y^2 unfortunately. There has been some testing going on to figure out how many degrees are in a km. Indications are that they are different if you move in the N-S direction vs the E-W direction. There may also be a correction needed the closer you are to the center of the map, but I have seen no evidence of that yet.
I would provide the conversion factors, but I have had time to work them out yet.
