Oh yeah...and as for third party head of states....

Again, you can't have a third party head of state unless you have the third party presence at the Governor and US Senate levels. And you can't get third party people in those positions in a First-Past-The-Post system.

Sure you have third parties running for President, but they will never win or even be a significant contender without an established national party backing them up. And as soon as a third national party manages to become a force, one of the two established national parties will desintigrate. We've seen this happen several times in the US, but not recently.

But we have seen the two national parties dramatically swap positions recently, and essentially entirely replace themselves. Until the 60s, democrats were anti-civil-rights and Republicans the party of Lincoln.

After civil rights, the Democratic South went solidly Republican, and the Republican North went solidly Democratic. Neither party looked anything like it did previously....so in effect we traded in two old parties for two new ones that happen to have the same names.

If that doesn't prove that two party rule is inherent to the US voting system, I don't know what does.
