"It would help return elections to individual candidates no the typical giant douche or turd sandwich choice."

We have good evidence that a multi-party system would be just as bad. In the 1924 presidential election there were 4 major candidates. Of the four Andrew Jackson received the most votes (by a good margin) but not enough for a majority so it was sent to the House of Representatives. Because of political backroom deals and whatnot, John Quincy Adams was elected president. That pissed off a lot of people.

We, as a society, have the worst knowledge and understanding of history. Thanks to headlines we always believe that everything that happens today is worse/bigger/deadlier/greater/etc than it's ever been before. Politics were just as bad in the Hamilton (Federalist) vs. Jefferson (Democratic Republican) era as it is now.

I'm not saying that the two party system is good but let's not believe that throwing more parties into the elections is going to solve anything. Our election problems stem from the campaigns themselves. Who would want to go through that garbage just to have one of the most difficult jobs in the world? Mostly the people we DON'T want.
