BTW, the Bloc Quebecois is mainly about splitting the province away from Canada, but I think on the political scale it would come in as almost as left-wing as the NDP. Quebec generally is much more progressive than the rest of Canada, whoever happens to be in charge in the province. They're way ahead of the rest of us in a lot of areas, like workers' rights and womens' rights.
It's not black and white of course. In some ways Quebec society is also not as tolerant of outsiders as it could be. Part of that has to do with defending their unique culture from being drowned out by the dominant Anglophone culture of Canada.
