LMAO Sam, you got me on both counts. But I do not live in Canada; I only planned on moving there if Sarah Palin were to become president in the next 4 years.

'Warning this is a long post and not particularly interesting: I advise against reading it unless you just cant help yourself. You have been warned.'

Aryan: I should have never brought the "Jewish question" into this discussion. However, the long history of Jewish persecution is not unique. Every other group in a similar position has been treated the same. The Jews just happen to have been all over because of the Diaspora and are generally more intertwined into modern society and thus are better able to publish their story.

What I am referring to is the by and large rejection of Jews to fully assimilate into any culture. Looking back to the Assyrian, Babylonian, and Greek invasions as a precursor to the more modern Roman diaspora you will see that the Jews defied common practice and refused to give up their religion. Common practice in those times was to invade a land and disperse its inhabitants amongst one's own lands. The goal being that without a central authority, the conquered peoples will assimilate and gain the identity of the conquerors. Time and again the Jews have been ordered to give up their identity and they have by and large chosen death and exile over relinquishing their identity. In some cases, such as Nazi era Germany, Poland, and Transylvania, they were not given the option of conversion.

A strong correlation shows in other "homeless peoples." The Roma have been nomads throughout Europe and have been similarly persecuted where ever they reside. The Armenians in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey also faced a "holocaust" of there own when they had no homeland.

In all honesty, the ideas on why the Jews have been persecuted are wide ranging. I suggest reading "The Zionist Idea" by Herzlberg for the secular zionist reasoning behind anti-semitism. I think it is a well thought out, reasonable explanation for the eruption of anti-semitism in Europe during the more modern era.
