FarmerBob: thanks for the clarification; I was thinking of a different thing; ahhh... what was it called? Damn. English as fourth language problem. Sorry, but basically, as far as I know, it was the first use of combined arms, and heli's as troop transport by marines. What you're talking is a lot different, which is why I assumed my interpretation was in error, and asked; thank you again :)

Great Brittannia: problem with that, is I'm pretty sure you mean "the Western world" by we. Population projections do not support that view, since in, give or take a century, the West's population will be in shambles, and while it might have the best tech on the planet, I'm pretty sure if it were to come to invasion, the British stand at/near Hong Kong would be replayed - specifically the comment by the troops: "We were running out of ammo, faster than they were running out of men."

FarmerBob: sorry, this just occurred to me a little late; isn't air-superiority a requirement for any engagement, now-a-day? Also, you're really toning it down by saying "required a level of combined arms coordination never before attempted between air and land components". I do not think anyone *other* than NATO could even attempt such a doctrine. And, of course, the entire doctrine rests on a communication system, that, since the fall of the Soviets, has not been shielded. Which means, even a 100 kT warhead detonated in space, would reduce the entire backbone of the system to paper and pencil, and Morse Code. Again, not a particularly good scenario, which however, requires a heads-up knowledge of the tactic used for the counter. However, given that both sides are nuclear, and one hi-tech, the other low-tech, who'd have the most to gain from an EMP blast from 100 clicks above? Just enough to avoid radiation damage...
