I dunno, the complexity of the war engine seems to be the problem itself in my view, regardless of weapon used or the choices you are given. There are too many technical issues beginning with the numbers game on down to bugs and fixes. I have generally shyed away from war for this reason alone. The true power is in how knowledgeable you are at the war engine docs, rather than pure tactics themselves. This is an adherance in itself. It should be oversimplified, but not dumbed down so that a 3 yr old can war. More emphasis should be placed on skill, military prowess, deception, surprise, and limited on the tech and numbers side.
Case in point, Israel was vastly outnumbered and outgunned in its 3 day war, but they used oldskool tricks and tactics to turn a major conflict they should have lost into a victory. Making that possible for everyone is not what I am asking for, but the possibility of overcoming an overwhelming force would bring a new dimension of realism to the war game. If indeed that is the objective desired here.
