Ah, fish and chips! Now I'm really hungry! Second only to our national dish of Chicken Tikka Masala (the fruits of a liberalised policy of immigration from the Commonwealth in the '50s).

Yep, sad to say, but we do hate everyone (not me personally, but as a nation). We're a bunch of xenophobes and there is nothing worse than seeing a tanked up (that's drunk, by the way) British football hooligan (I mean, fan) on the south coast of Spain shouting loudly and slowly at a local, "OI, PEDRO! DO YOU DO CHIPS?"

For of course, everybody speaks English provided you speak loudly and slowly enough.

The French can be rude full stop [period for you Americans], not just their tourists. It's worth pointing out, though, that it tends to be restricted to northern France (to the point that most southerners hate the northerners). The southern regions, as well as having nicer weather, tend to be much friendlier.

If you're heading to France, Paris can be done in a day. Spend the rest of your time down south; Lyon and its surrounding area is beautiful and full of the friendly kind of French.

YAY, CURLING! Without which Britain would not have won a medal at the last Winter Olympics. Should point out that it was a predominantly Scottish team that won us Gold, not English.

Slavery never exisited in this country

Yeah, but the "Involuntary Servitude Trade" isn't nearly so catchy. The Abolitionists would have got nowhere with slogans based on that.

In any case, language evolves. Most people would understand slavery to mean the involuntary servitude that you talk about.
