Can I ask when you all made your piles? As I understand it, there was once a Wild West period in SC, when a trillion was what you kept in your pocket to give the blind man selling matches. Then the rules were changed (when was that, btw?) and that same banknote now buys a box for four at the opera.

If the above surmise is correct, there would be a situation analogous to the German hyperinflation of the twenties in reverse, where the price of a newspaper changed from 163 Marks to 200,000,000,000 Marks in the space of a year. The fire was eventually put out by the introduction of a new currency, which lopped off nine zeros.

If W3C is to all intents and purposes trying to put old inflationary banknotes in the furnace, then that's exactly what a government or central bank would do. Loaning for a pittance at full risk is naturally not good business - but it becomes so if it's the only purpose the money can find. Surely the current pointlessness of great fortunes is because simpeople themselves do not come first the way they should, toppling tyrants, emigrating from avarice and incompetence, demanding better lives and standards, and in a thread last year (see 'problem with using high quality supplies' Nov 07) the GM acknowledges the underlying problem to some degree, and promises change in the right direction.
