Adam, forgive me asking a nieve question, but wouldn't this make the game even more feather-bedded and failsafe? Wouldn't market forces dictate that once enough companies have gone under in the sectors you mention, what was previously unprofitable will eventually become a goldmine?

SC is strap-lined on all our favourites pages as a realistic simulation. Unrealistic play should therefore merely equal bad play, with no sanctions other than the disastrous ones you would encounter in RL. The booster you propose exists in RL as better management/updated machinery/R&D etc., but such improvements can't go on indefinitely. At some stage - unless the government or an entrepreneur steps in with their own cash as a bail-out as you suggest - the bank sends round the bailiffs and has a fire sale. It's the bank's money, so it's the bank who decides when that time has come.

The trouble is surely that one unreality begets another and another, and makes what should be bad play sensible and good. To give one example of many, the idea that paying people double makes them work twice as hard exists only in SC and a few right-wing think-tanks. In a world where such nonsense actually comes true, the mad salary inflation the devs wish to counter is natural - both good play and good business practise. Every time SC moves its model closer to reality, another artificial kink in the system will get ironed out.
