As a war world FB does need some work.

As been already said,war is STILL to expensive,with very little gain unless you asset strip population or cash rich countries.we need cheaper attacks,and cheaper repair of conquests to make war a viable expansion technique.(my one and only slave has an 8.2 trillion dollar debt,4.5 of which was repair on a 10 millon pop country)

The is a definate problem of a monoculture eco system here.
That is to say there is only two types of fauna(countries)with little to no variation except in size,and very little meaningful competition between them.
This could be adressed by giving some sizable options on how you want your country to run.
EG:
'Warrior' countries could take a bonus to attacks,with a penalty to economy.
'Peaceful'countries could get economy bonus with attack(but not defence)penalties.
'Empire'counties could get lowered thresholds for asset transfer at the expense of the economy and or population growth,..ect ect ect,..
The idea would be to create different 'animals'to wander the simcounty plains,instead of varied sizes of the same animal.

Lastly,the free play time is just too short to grab and addict a new player,especially if they see no growth and no chance of growth.Federation support would be great,but as the world is so small,each new friend made is one less potential target.Its undarwinian to expect feds to make the game more accessable to new players.
For the benifit of the PAYING players i think its really in the best intrest of the game to give longer time to freeplay,or your players (free AND pay)will leave as the game population drops.
