Purchasing of weapons and ammunition

Weapons and ammunition are purchased on the open market. Weapons factories are not different than any other factories and many offer their products on the market. This can sometimes create the strange situation where a country is fighting a war against another while its weapons and ammunition factories are selling their products to the enemy.

The trade system in the game has a contract feature that allows the producers of weapons to sell their products by agreed contracts to specific customers of their choice. Countries may agree to share in the production of weapons and ammunition they need and sell each other by contract. Nuclear weapons are never traded on the general market and can only be traded in bilateral contracts and direct sales between countries.

Countries can purchase large numbers of weapons and a lot of ammunition every month. Unlimited quantities are however not realistic. It is unrealistic to allow a country to purchase 3000 bombers and 100.000 bombs in one game month and attack a neighbor who is unaware of the existence of this army.

In the real world, it takes countries years to get deliveries of large numbers of such weapons and train their military to use them effectively. The quantities as allowed in simcountry, make it possible to build an army quite fast but allow some time for others to react.

The maximum monthly spending on weapons and ammunition depends on the financial situation of the country and also depends on the potential use of boosters that can increase the maximum spending per game month.

The amount also depends on the type of weapons being purchased. It is easier to purchase defensive weapons while the limitations are more severe on offensive and strategic weapons.
