Detailed Description:
I think you should be able to change the shape and size of a country by buying land from other countries. To change it you would click on the mouse and drag it over what land you want to cut off, sell, or buy (if the seller agrees).
I also think there should be one or two continents with no nations of any sort on them that can be colonized by sending people over there and doing the drag thing except that would make them explore the land (the drag would cause a line to appear: you'd end the line by closing in the land). Then you could declare land a colony and build a settlement there.

Throughout history, there was little movement of borders. Countries are now exist of a collection of properties, or pieces of land that will become separate assets and will be traded on the market. Players will be able to purchase properties in any country that is selling them.
War may also end with the winning country owning some of the land of another country.
